So I was lighting a candle the other day, getting ready for All Saints’ Day, and I suddenly thought—where did this tradition even come from? I mean, we do it every year, we visit loved ones, we clean up the graves, we reflect… but how did it all start?
Turns out, the story goes way back. Like, way back.
🕯️ A Quick History Lesson (Promise It’s Interesting)
All Saints’ Day began in the early centuries of Christianity. Back then, there were so many martyrs—people who died for their faith—that the Church couldn’t give each one a separate feast day. So, they decided to honor all of them in one go. The first official celebration was around the 4th century, and by the 9th century, Pope Gregory IV made November 1 the official date.
It wasn’t just about saints with names in history books—it was about ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives. Quiet heroes. People who lived with purpose, integrity, and faith.
And that got me thinking…
💡 What Does This Have to Do With Business?
A lot, actually.
In business, especially in what we do—helping companies manage their finances and systems—we found out that most companies don’t always think about legacy. Most think about deadlines, reports, sales targets. But behind all that is something deeper:
Are we building something that lasts?
Are we working with integrity?
Are we helping others succeed?
Just like the saints, the best businesses aren’t always flashy. They’re consistent. Purpose-driven. They leave a mark not just in profits, but in people’s lives.
All Saints’ Day isn’t just about the past. It’s a gentle nudge to live—and work—with intention. Whether you're running a business, leading a team, or simply trying to make sense of the day-to-day, it’s worth asking:
What kind of legacy am I building—not just in life, but in the way I show up every day?
Because sometimes, the quiet moments of reflection remind us that success isn’t just about numbers or milestones—it’s about meaning, impact, and the stories we leave behind.
